Online Blind Dates Mislead in Spouse Search

Online blind date platforms that simplify individuals’ profiles to just age, height, weight, education and appearance have distorted young people’s approach to finding a partner, which should primarily be based on love. As of June 2022, these matchmaking platforms had over 33 million registered users, with numbers continuing to grow. Personal wealth has become the top priority in partner selection. Users often embellish their profiles to attract the opposite sex, leading to materialistic or deceptive interactions. This focus on wealth has made young people vulnerable to scams from livestreams, fake matchmaking apps and dating services in cafes and bars. Experts advise that when choosing a spouse, emotions and personal connections should be prioritized over financial status and background.
