China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced countermeasures against 12 American defense corporations and 10 senior executives on May 22.
According to the announcement, from May 22, China froze the listed corporations’ movable and immovable properties and other assets in China and banned the executives from entering China, including the regions of Hong Kong and Macao.
The targets of the latest sanctions include Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, Raytheon Missile Systems, General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, as well as senior executives from Northrop Grumman and General Dynamics Information Technology.
The Foreign Ministry attributed the countermeasures to the US’s illegal unilateral sanctions on an array of Chinese entities on the excuse of alleged Russian factors, unilateral bullying and economic coercion as well as constant arms sales to Taiwan.
At a press conference, the ministry’s spokesperson stressed that China “firmly opposes unilateral sanctions and long-arm jurisdiction that have no basis in international law or authorization of the UN Security Council” and that “the Taiwan question is at the core of China’s core interests, and the first red line that cannot be crossed in China-US relations.”
