Recognizing the profound impact on economy and national security, countries such as Britain, France and Germany are striving to keep pace. China has showcased its considerable competence, yet a substantial gap still persists between China and the US in frontier sciences, data operations and high-end semiconductor manufacturing. Navigating this new era, it is imperative for China to neither disengage nor become ensnared in unnecessary rivalries, recognizing that some innovations may prove as fleeting as the Metaverse. Cooperation, particularly with less developed nations, must be fostered, as AI holds the potential to be an unprecedented human legacy if developed responsibly. However, the potential for malicious use, even for conflicts and wars, underscores the urgent need for vigilant oversight of AI.
