hinese astronauts Liu Boming and Tang Hongbo successfully completed their first spacewalk outside the Tiangong space station on July 4, over two weeks after they arrived at the station in low-Earth orbit.
With the help of the third astronaut Nie Haisheng working in the Tianhe core module, Liu worked on the assembly of a movable robot arm, while Tang did other tasks.
The spacewalk lasted seven hours, during which the astronauts also tested China’s new-generation space suit. Weighing 130 kilos, the space suit supports radiation prevention, temperature and pressure adjustment, and is equipped with a complete lifesupport system.
In the first manned mission to the space station, the astronauts are scheduled to stay on board for about three months.
