The value of an enterprise or industry not only depends on how many people it employs, but also how many new occupations it creates and the kinds of employment and entrepreneurial ecosystems it produces, reads a Beijing Youth Daily editorial

On April 1, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security officially listed 13 new jobs such as AI engineers, Internet of Things (IOT) engineers, big data engineers, cloud computing engineers, digital managers, e-sports operators, e-athletes and UAV pilots.

A survey by China Youth Daily showed that 78 percent of more than 2000 respondents said they wanted to do the new jobs.

In a recent editorial, the Beijing Youth Daily said that in the process of economic innovation and restructuring, new technologies will play a very important role in creating new jobs. This is significant for new graduates and others seeking employment as future job creation will depend on how enterprises innovate.

Take e-commerce giant JD.com. According to its financial report for the first quarter, by diversifying its business ecosystem in recent years, JD has created more than 2,000 jobs such as e-sports athletes, intelligent customer service experts, drone flight specialists, global cuisine influencers and other unique positions in the age of AI. Although not all of them have been included in the national list of professions, they provided a lot of choices for job seekers.

To measure how much of a contribution enterprises or industries make not only depends on how many people they employ, but also how many new occupations they create and the kinds of employment and entrepreneurial ecosystems they produce.

Accordingly, the value of a government department depends not only how it helps industries with employment issues but also the services and infrastructure it provides to facilitate the creation of new jobs and occupations in these industries.
