On Jane 8 a video of groomsmen groping bridesmaids as part of a "game" at a wedding went viral online. Netizens widely criticized sexual harassment at weddings, although some dismissed it as "horseplay" and said that it was part of traditional wedding culture, reported news portal www.infzm.com.

Like many cultures, China has a tradition of jokes and tricks on the newlyweds at wedding ceremonies. But some netizens commented that these often cross the line into sexual harassment, and that if this was the case, the law might even have to step in.

Others defended the tradition, saying that it would contribute to a harmonious marriage. They argued that the women had freely consented to take part in such games, and should be free to enjoy what they wanted. Critics countered by pointing out the social coercion involved in such "consent," and saying that the events were inevitably driven and directed by men.
