From 1938 to 1941, while many countries closed their borders to Jews who were trying to escape Nazi persecution, Shanghai opened its doors and accepted more than 20,000 Jewish refugees. During that dark period, Jews and locals in Shanghai lived together in peace and helped each other to get through the times of hardship and pain.
Shimmer, a bilingual musical presented by Shanghai Heng Yuan Xiang Theater Development Company, discusses the war and peace, darkness and brightness, and love and death through a story based on real events.
Peter Kam, music supervisor and composer of
Shimmer, talks about the challenges he has encountered while creating this musical, and the love and strength he hopes to deliver.
