China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced sanctions against several major US defense contractors on December 26, 2025.

The sanctions cover 20 companies, including Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation, L3Harris Maritime Services and Boeing in St. Louis, as well as 10 company executives. The sanctions freeze the listed companies and the executives’ movable and immovable properties and other assets within China and prohibit all organizations and individuals within China from engaging in transactions, cooperation and other activities with them. China will also deny visas to the listed executives and entry into China (including Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions).

According to the Foreign Ministry statement, the sanctions are countermeasures against the US’s latest large-scale arms sales to China’s Taiwan Region which seriously violates the one-China principle and the three China-US Joint Communiqués, interferes in China’s internal affairs and undermines China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The US Department of Defense announced on December 18, 2025 that the government has approved arms sales to Taiwan valued over US$11.1 billion, including 82 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) and 420 MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS).
