According to new data from the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing, in August alone, China launched 15 new international air freight routes, with more than 30 new flights increased per week.
In the first eight months of the year, China approved 152 new international air freight routes with an increase of more than 300 weekly round-trip flights. The new routes mainly cover Asia, with 75 cargo routes, and Europe, with 55 new shipping routes. There are also 14 new routes connecting to North America.
The new cargo routes mainly transport cross-border e-commerce products, high-end manufacturing goods, high value-added products, electronics and fresh agricultural products.
Experts said the increase in air cargo capacity is meeting the demands of global supply chains and greatly benefits the fast development of cross-border e-commerce. June data from the Chinese customs authorities showed that in 2024, cross-border e-commerce exports and imports increased by 14 percent year-on-year to 2.71 trillion yuan (US$387.1b).
