At the 21st Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition held from April 23 to May 2, intelligent vehicles with driver-assistance systems were at the forefront as the latest competitive edge. Underpinned by AI technologies, the frontier technology is spearheaded by Tesla, Xiaomi and the Huawei-led HIMA automobile alliance and sales network. They have now extended the technology to petroleum-fueled vehicles such as the Audi A5L, scheduled to be sold in June with Huawei’s Advanced Driving System. Its rollout may stimulate more traditional and hybrid vehicles, whose sales have shown signs of rebounding since January in China, to develop smart driving technologies. Meanwhile, enabled by robust sales across the world for 10 consecutive years, domestic EV manufacturers are seeking overseas partners to introduce their technologies abroad. However, experts have warned that since autonomous driving technology remains immature in many emergency scenarios, safety should always be prioritized over tech advances.
