Reusable Rockets Spearhead Space Commerce

By NewsChina Updated Apr.1

China’s first reusable rocket Zhuque-3 developed by private aerospace company LandSpace is set to lift off in June 2025, nine months after its last 10-kilometer vertical takeoff and landing test at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. If it succeeds, though still lagging behind world-leading companies like SpaceX, the company will overtake all State-owned rocket producers in terms of recyclability. With improvements to processes such as propellent cooling and braking, the methalox-powered rocket is expected to enable space travel, transport and pharmaceutical extractions whose purity is higher than those produced on Earth. The commercial aerospace industry has not only lowered costs in the supply chain, but also provides competitive salaries at up to 10 times those offered by State-backed companies. Experts believe that when the reusable technology is mature, the cost of space tourism will decrease by half.
