A new document jointly released by seven Chinese government departments on October 14 pledges to promote the clean and efficient use of coal energy.

The document lists 15 key tasks covering four systems, including green and collaborative development, safe and environmentally friendly production, clean storage and multiple efficient uses.

The document is one more measure to aid China in meeting its goals for peaking carbon dioxide emissions in 2030 and carbon neutrality in 2060. It states the need for obvious improvement in the smart and green development of coal use by 2030, which is able to gradually reduce energy consumption during production, and optimizing the storage and increasing the quality of coal.

The National Development and Reform Commission, one of the document designers, said it will work with other agencies to supervise progress.
