By NewsChina Updated Oct.1

Repetitive exercises and rote memorization, the two major learning approaches in China, will be phased out in the age of big data. A focus on academic subjects will give way to fostering students’ curiosity, creative thinking, resilience and ability to concentrate. The college admissions process should become more flexible and not reliant on entrance examinations scores. Many colleges favor outstanding students in mathematics. To access top educational resources in China, lots of students attend Mathematics Olympiad classes, though the lessons have little to do with genuine math. Interdisciplinary learning in higher educational institutions like Westlake University, a jointly funded higher educational institution in Zhejiang Province, is encouraged. Experts believe learning will definitely be a lifelong process stimulated by strong self-motivation from the onset of the new epoch.
