The Chinese Football Association (CFA), which has been mired in corruption scandals, announced on March 28 it is seeking supervisors to improve transparency and blow the final whistle on wrongdoings and miscreants in the game.

The CFA said the move will promote the healthy development of Chinese soccer.

The top soccer body plans to invite supervisors from media outlets, fan organizations, local officials and government disciplinary supervision departments in cities that host league matches.

The volunteer supervisors will collect suggestions and advice from the public and supervise player and referee selections for matches, among other duties. They must have a love of the game and some basic knowledge about it.

Since 2023, the CFA has been hit with scandal after scandal. Top officials have been detained and charged for corrupt activities, including former Party secretary Du Zhaocai, former chairman Chen Xuyuan and former chief coach of the Chinese Men’s Soccer Team Li Tie.

On April 8, the CFA announced it was removing all mid-level management ahead of an organizational restructure.
