Shielding Minors under Legal Protection

Xinmin Weekly June 5, 2023

By NewsChina Updated Aug.1

An amendment to the Law on the Protection of Minors implemented in China on June 1, 2021 has consolidated the legal system on crimes against minors, including domestic violence, school bullying and inappropriate internet provision. The number of legal provisions has increased from 72 to 132, and enforcement involves the efforts of families, schools, communities and judicial departments to crack down on crimes, especially hidden crimes such as domestic violence. Family obligations are considered of the utmost important as over the past decade, on average of one child a week died due to domestic violence nationwide. Family tensions which can cause psychological problems are usually the causes of juvenile delinquency. Social workers are expected to establish long-term relationships to support vulnerable students in schools.
