Two pandemic control workers in Guangdong Province were suspended for beating a dog to death. According to reports, the owner was quarantined on March 2 after he was tested positive. Two workers, who were sent to disinfect the warehouse after positive samples were allegedly found, discovered the 3-year-old Samoyed and beat it to death with a long club, the owner’s girlfriend told media. According to a statement from Huidong County pandemic control command center, the dog could have contracted Covid-19 from prolonged exposure to the infected environment. Officials have ordered the workers to apologize to its owner. Though some on social media defended the workers, the majority accused them of animal cruelty and mishandling the owner’s private property. Many said the government should issue standards for dealing with quarantined people’s pets or animals that allegedly carry the virus.
