A boarding school in Dazhou, Sichuan Province triggered ire online after two students were stopped at its gate for bringing a crate of milk on campus. In order not to miss class, the students quickly guzzled 11 cartons of milk before onlookers stepped in to stop the spectacle. The school, which said it has a strict “no outside food” policy, allowed the students to store the remaining cartons in the security guard’s office. While the school said the policy was to ensure food safety, netizens argued that milk is healthy and the school was trying to deflect blame. Amid the public criticism, the local education bureau talked with the school who pledged to revise the ban.
