Dalian University of Technology in Liaoning Province turned heads for banning premarital sex among students. Media reported that many other universities, especially prestigious ones, have imposed similar regulations, including forbidding students or visitors of the opposite sex to spend the night in dorm rooms. Some condemned the schools for infringing on students’ rights, while supporters argued that the regulations “aim to protect female students.” Experts said the regulations seek to curb public displays of affection and premarital pregnancy. “Although no law forbids premarital sex, school regulations are based on higher moral standards,” sexologist Peng Xiaohui told Cover News, a media outlet in Sichuan.
