China is upgrading its huge transportation network, as the sector has entered a phase of high-quality development. The Guidelines on National Comprehensive Transportation Network require the digital development of transport infrastructure to reach 90 percent by 2035 after accelerating sci-tech innovation. In 2021, the central government proposed speeding up the digitization of traditional infrastructure including transportation, energy and civil engineering. Digitization has become increasingly important to improve the healthy development of the transport sector. China’s transport sector has experienced substantial improvement in recent years, but shortcomings still exist, especially in fundamental research and cutting-edge technologies.
