Despite his modest number of followers, Liang Shi, a 54-year-old man in Sichuan Province, garnered widespread attention this June when he sat the national college entrance exam college for the 25th time. As he posted on Sina Weibo soon after the exam, he failed again, coming up nearly 200 points short of the required score for Sichuan University, his school of choice. After failing the test three times in the early 1980s after finishing high school, Liang worked as a day laborer. Although he has done many jobs since and got married in 1992, he never gave up his college dreams, believing a university degree will help him find a better job. He posted on Weibo that he will sit the exam next year, but shifted his focus from science to liberal arts, which he believes will be easier. Some on social media accused Liang of taking the test to attract attention on social media. But Liang struck back, telling news portal The Paper that he will keep trying and not be dissuaded by the way others see him.
