A Hebei Province professor has been pulled into a wormhole of controversy over claims that his research overturns Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity. His report garnered public attention in early June when it was nominated by the provincial education bureau for its 2021 Scientific Technology Progress Prize. In his paper, Li Zifeng, a professor at Yanshan University with a background in petroleum studies, claimed Einstein’s work is based in faulty mathematics and he aims to disrupt and subvert the widely accepted theory. Facing backlash online, Li said that scholars have the right to challenge any theory. However, netizens and experts said his paper contained no proof and demanded he put his claims to the test.
