China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on July 23 that 13 Chinese enterprises have been building capacity for Covid-19 vaccines.
MIIT spokesperson Huang Libin said at a regular press briefing that the ministry is closely following the development of the vaccines and is guiding enterprises on how to build workshops for the production of biohazardous materials and upgrade the necessary equipment and technologies. The MIIT has ordered enterprises to further streamline their supply chains so upstream and downstream enterprises can link up more quickly and efficiently.
According to the MIIT, nine Chinese vaccine developers have received approval to launch clinical trials for their Covid-19 vaccines, three of which, according to the World Health Organization, have entered the third phase of clinical trials.
