To help export enterprises survive the sales plunge caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, China’s State Council issued on June 22 a document to support firms in selling products previously destined for overseas in the domestic market.

The document pledges to expand the range of exports approved for sale domestically to common consumables and industrial products that meet domestic demand and national quality standards. It suggested that government agencies should build domestic sales platforms and encouraged firms to try multiple sales channels, including e-commerce platforms. It called on financial institutions to give more support in loans and insurance.

Pang Chaoran, an associate researcher at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation under the Ministry of Commerce, told the Economic Information Daily that the government will try every means to help exporters develop a domestic customer base and that the document is helpful to connect domestic and international markets, which will help the sustainable development of exporters.
