Zhong Meimei (pseudonym) won applause online after livestreaming his vivid impressions of how teachers scold students. Some netizens said the 13-year-old’s performance was so accurate that it immediately transported them back to their school days. But Zhong removed all of the videos from his livestreaming account after a chat with his math teacher, who apparently was left less than impressed. Talking to media, the teacher denied asking Zhong to remove the videos as netizens had speculated, but was concerned that Zhong would be affected emotionally when the internet eventually moves on and his popularity wanes. While Zhong’s mother voiced her support for the teacher’s opinion, many netizens said they were suppressing Zhong’s talent and narrowing his space to develop.
