Wang Shuai, a 37-year-old deputy county mayor in Shandong Province, found his wings recently selling braised chicken on livestreaming websites. A video clip showed Wang gorging on four bags of the local Shandong specialty and saying: “Only princesses can enjoy this tasty food... Oh my God it’s amazing... buy it!” Viewers have drawn comparisons between Wang and Li Jiaqi, China’s most popular livestreaming cosmetics reviewer known for his exaggerated, fast-talking sales pitches. According to media reports, Wang sold around 40,000 bags of braised chicken in one week, and local producers are struggling to meet demand. Before Wang, most sold only 50 bags per day. Wang attributes the success to his entertaining livestreams, which he sees as the next trend in e-commerce. Netizens praised the mayor for his dedication to his post and willingness to engage with the public.
