hina and Mauritius officially inked a free trade agreement (FTA) agreement on October 17, implementing zero tariffs on most imports from the other.
The FTA was based on four rounds of negotiation held between December 2017 and September 2018, during which China agreed to exempt tariffs on 96.3 percent of imports from Mauritius. In return, Mauritius agreed to implement zero tariffs on 94.2 percent of imports from China. Thanks to the agreement, Mauritian sugar will be imported to China.
The two sides also pledged to open over 100 service sectors to each other, including medical care, education, finance, tourism and transportation. This is the “most free” trade deal that Mauritius has ever inked.
