A remote village in Yunnan Province that borders Myanmar was found to have been “conquered” by drugs, with nearly all of its young and middle-aged men having become drug addicts. According to the news portal The Paper, the villagers began to use drugs after they made a fortune from growing rubber. To combat the narcotics nightmare, the local police have mounted more patrols in the village since recent years, and the village women, the indirect victims of the drug abuse, have also formed a “mom squad” to stay alert to any strangers. The measures have helped decrease the number of drug users, but more time is needed to entirely get rid of the narcotics.
