In the latest round of post-pandemic travel relaxations, China has released a new list of countries eligible for outbound group tours, increasing the number of destination countries to 138.
This is the third list of countries authorized by China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism. China released the first list of 20 destinations in February and the second list of 40 in March. The latest list covers 78 countries, including the US, UK, Germany, Japan, South Korea and Australia.
Data from DTG Corporate Travel showed that as soon as the list was released, visa inquiries increased by three times compared to the same period of the previous day. Data from travel platform Ctrip showed that searches for outbound tourism products increased more than 20-fold, with Japan and Australia the hottest tickets.
Official data shows the weekly number of cross-border flights has recovered to 50 percent of the same period of 2019, with the average ticket price dropping by nearly 80 percent compared to the same pandemic-impacted period of 2022.
