Seven people were fined 15,000 yuan (US$2,300) each for chasing after Tibetan antelope in two off-road vehicles to take photos. Media reports said that the seven men were on a self-driving tour of Tibet when they illegally entered the national Tibetan antelope nature reserve in Siling Lake (Tibetan’s largest lake) area, and harassed the antelope for fun. Although no antelope were hurt in the chase, according to local officials, netizens believed that the men’s behavior was unforgivable and they should have been given penalties based on China’s law on protecting wild animals. “Just a fine is too light a punishment. Can money solve every problem? Their behavior is no different from murder,” remarked one netizen.
